THEY HAVE GOTTEN TO FIGHT SOME THINGS TOGETHER LATELY, THOUGH. and they've DONE WELL AT IT. that really does make Yato feel like he's doing at least one thing right with Yukine-- except that the things they fight in Kyr are evil Maya-possessing Echoes and chimera abominations in some mad scientist's lab. less fun than ayakashi. if they're fighting something in Kyr, it likely means they're in pretty dire circumstances. they don't just have the option of going out for a day and murdering 50 ayakashi and calling it a job well done. nothing they can do about that. but at least they have been able to work together to help their friends a few times, which is a Big Deal. it means they're still in sync enough to fight well, which is what they do.
obviously he cares deeply for Yukine, the Most Deeply, but he's still a long way from, say, using the "L" word properly. probably. work in progress. AND IT'S NOT ALL BAD. Yato in Kyr is even less sure of himself. as amnesiacs are. but especially because he keeps getting stupid mixed messages from his memories-- one day it's "I WANNA BE A GOD OF FORTUNE" and the next day it's "you can never change your naaatureeeee" and the next it's him murdering everyone, sometimes with no context at all. and while this is obviously the source of his internal conflict in canon too, in Kyr he's just... desperate to learn about himself AND HE HAS EVEN LESS OF AN IDEA WHAT TO BELIEVE. WHAT IS THIS SHIT.
but he's in a totally different environment in Kyr than in canon. he talks to people all the time, has a support group outside Hiyo and Yukine, he's never actually been abandoned by anyone here, or permanently forgotten (except for, he presumes, by people who goodend), there are no ayakashi, only like one or two other gods, and almost everyone can see him just fine. so that's all what he's used to. he is Not Chill about people forgetting him in Kyr because of that. and he doesn't need to spread his name or grant wishes for the same reasons he does in canon, or to struggle to break away from his shitdad. AND HE HAS HELPED YATO OUT QUITE A FEW TIMES, from freeing him from Flame's yaoi dungeon to holding him back when Yato was trying to eat his friends. He hasn't ditched them, which was a concern I had going in, but he's not fully on board the whole idea of it yet. This experience with shadows etc is making inroads into that though. Yato in Kyr is even less sure of himself. as amnesiacs are. but especially because he keeps getting stupid mixed messages from his memories-- one day it's "I WANNA BE A GOD OF FORTUNE" and the next day it's "you can never change your naaatureeeee" and the next it's him murdering everyone, sometimes with no context at all. and while this is obviously the source of his internal conflict in canon too, in Kyr he's just... desperate to learn about himself AND HE HAS EVEN LESS OF AN IDEA WHAT TO BELIEVE. WHAT IS THIS SHIT.
but he's in a totally different environment in Kyr than in canon. he talks to people all the time, has a support group outside Hiyo and Yukine, he's never actually been abandoned by anyone here, or permanently forgotten (except for, he presumes, by people who goodend), there are no ayakashi, only like one or two other gods, and almost everyone can see him just fine. so that's all what he's used to. he is Not Chill about people forgetting him in Kyr because of that. and he doesn't need to spread his name or grant wishes for the same reasons he does in canon, or to struggle to break away from his shitdad. BEING DAD-FREE'S A BIG DEAL despite all his terrible dad memories. also he has more fun fucking with people who can't see him because it's so raaaaaaare. a rare and precious opportunity to fuck with people.
he's also learned murder is bad, which isn't different from canon, except he learned it from teammates and from all his experience with traumagames. he's sort of taking the same character arc he's taking in canon, just in more of a zigzag and with a slightly different motivation.

I REALLY WANT MORE DUMB STATUS EFFECTS. Like when I aged him up!! More silly and lighthearted stuff because I feel like I play a lot of heavy stuff so I'd like to mix it up with more nonsense!! Yato does... genuinely like Vash. In a way??? He trusts him-- not with personal shit (no need to panic), but he'd trust him with his life. Sort of in the way you can trust a paramedic with your life: not because of some deep and abiding personal bond, but because that's the paramedic's job. Anime Jesusing is Vash's job. AND HE HAS HELPED YATO OUT QUITE A FEW TIMES, from freeing him from Flame's yaoi dungeon to holding him back when Yato was trying to eat his friends. And he's really goddamn easy to mooch food off of. Which is what's most important, so Vash is cool in Yato's book!!! Solid B. More pancakes and you can bump it up to a B+ maybe.
Yato's pretty sure Vash is this way for literally everyone no matter what his feelings are, and he's never pried or really tried asking Yato for any favors in return, and Yato has NO PROBLEM WITH THIS. But Vash is Yato's favorite Cat and the one he'd be most likely to help out in a pinch (that is a really low bar this means nothing.) ...If somehow that scenario came to pass, in the darkest timeline where Yato is Vash's only hope.

SO NO HE'S NOT!!!11 However he was actually doing pretty okay up until this most recent event. His memories have been really banal so far, however the combo of shadow stuff and starting to realise his body is weird is going to take a toll. Everything in Kyr is insane and he's just starting to accept that. HIS TEAM... is a weird one. He hasn't ditched them, which was a concern I had going in, but he's not fully on board the whole idea of it yet. This experience with shadows etc is making inroads into that though. Logan is not typically a great team player in canon either and it's basically his trajectory that he eventually will come to take responsibility and his place within a team. This may happen a lot faster in Kyr because it's harder not to.

I'd like for Yato to do something GOOD FOR ONCE, unprompted!!!!, for certain friends. and then get a shrine. getting a shrine is a Big Effing Deal for him and kinda necessary for his character arc.
also I want someone to shoot or stab or set him on fire or break his neck or whatever outside a game. comically. because he has a shard back that means he'll barely notice any non-supernatural damage done to him. even if he's shot full of holes. I have no idea when or why this would happen but I want it.

HOLLY LIKES CATS! I am using that as a broad generalization because Cats is a huge team, but I think overall she's chill with them? She doesn't really think of them as a team-team so it's easier to just get to know them all individually and go from there. She is getting used to knowing them at all and being comfortable around them; before she left the only Cat she talked to was like, Vash, and now she interacts with basically all of them! They talk about their lives. And things they enjoy. And sometimes talk about their problems. And she actively enjoys being around them. It's so weird. They're...nice(????????) people...I'd be lying if I said she relies on them cuz lol Holly, but she feels comfortable with them in her space and is willing to metaphorically step on their faces if they're dicks, so it all works out. She hasn't figured out that she is one of the few responsible adults because she still has hope for Panther.
